Walden in Transition is a grassroots initiative in Saffron Walden which recognises our community’s urgent need to:

Build local resilience in response to peak oil

Drastically reduce carbon emissions in response to climate change

Re-localise our economy in response to a faltering global economy

This “triple crunch” presents us with huge opportunities as well as challenges, and if we plan and act early enough we can use our collective creativity and cooperation to build a future for the town that is more fulfilling, enriching and connected than the lifestyles we live today. We believe that if we choose to manage the Transition rather than have it manage us then we can look forward to a positive future for ourselves and for our children.

What brings us together is a desire to have the conversation about how we respond to the realities of the challenges, recognising also that we don’t have all the answers.
